Living in Miami means UV exposure is not seasonal. It is daily, even in winter. That does not mean you have to pause your skincare routine for half the year. Some treatments are safe to book any time, some just need extra sun care, and a few are better saved for our cooler, lower UV months. Here is a simple guide to planning treatments around the Miami sun.
Why Sun Timing Matters
Many skin treatments work by removing old surface cells or creating controlled micro injuries so the skin rebuilds. For a while afterward, the new skin is more sensitive to UV light. Sun exposure during that window can cause redness, irritation and, most importantly, dark spots. People with medium to deep skin tones and anyone prone to melasma need to be especially careful, because heat and sun can trigger pigmentation that takes months to fade.
Safe All Year in Miami
- HydraFacial: gentle cleansing, extractions and hydration with no downtime. A great summer reset.
- Custom facials: most can be adjusted for the season. Tell your esthetician about recent sun exposure.
- Wrinkle relaxers and dermal fillers: sun is not a concern for the treatment itself. Avoid heavy heat, saunas and intense workouts for the first day.
- Microcurrent: no needles and no peeling.
- Vitamin shots and IV therapy: popular for hydration during hot months.
- Endospheres: a body treatment with no skin injury, so sun timing is not an issue.
Proceed With Extra Sun Care
Microneedling can be done in warm months, but you need to protect your skin carefully for about two weeks afterward: broad spectrum SPF 50, a hat and shade during peak hours. Treatments that involve injections can bruise, and sun can make bruising look darker, so plan them away from beach days and events.
Best Saved for November to February
Medium and deeper chemical peels make skin very sensitive to light while it peels. In Miami, that means planning them for our shorter lower UV window and committing to strict sun protection. Fibroblast plasma pen treatments leave small crusts that must stay out of the sun while they heal. If you have a trip, a wedding or a boat day coming up, tell us so we can time your treatment around it.
Your Daily Sun Routine
- Use a broad spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher every morning, even on cloudy days
- Reapply every two hours outdoors and after swimming or sweating
- Add a wide brim hat and sunglasses for long days outside
- Choose a lightweight, oil free formula if you break out easily
- Pair sunscreen with an antioxidant serum for extra protection
Already Have Sun Damage?
Dark spots, uneven tone and rough texture are common in Miami. The good news is that most of it can be improved with the right plan. Read our post summer skin repair guide, our melasma and pigmentation guide, and see our sun damage treatments.
Your Year Round Treatment Plan
At Zeugma Medspa, we help clients build a treatment calendar that fits Miami life: gentle facials and hydration in the hottest months, stronger resurfacing when UV drops, and maintenance in between. Many clients keep this rhythm with a monthly facial membership, which starts at $135 a month and includes member savings on other services.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get a facial in the Miami summer?
Yes. HydraFacials and most custom facials are safe all year. Just tell your esthetician about recent sun exposure so they can adjust the treatment.
How long should I stay out of the sun after a chemical peel?
Avoid direct sun while your skin is peeling and protect it carefully for several weeks afterward. Your provider will give you a timeline based on the peel strength.
Is SPF enough to prevent dark spots?
Daily sunscreen is the most important step, but heat and visible light can also trigger pigmentation. A hat, shade and antioxidant serums add extra protection.
Do wrinkle relaxers work differently in hot weather?
No, but avoid saunas, hot yoga and intense workouts for the first day after treatment.
